Editorial Review:
An insider's investigation of the state of the post-Bush Conservative movement in the United States today.
R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr.-intimately familiar with the ideology and personalities of the conservative movement in the United States from the inside-analyzes who was right and what went wrong. And, in the process, he outlines the conservative agenda for the "next ascendancy."
Tyrrell's well-turned prose has received acclaim from such people as P.J. O'Rourke, Norman Mailer, Paul Johnson, Dick Morris, William Safire, William F. Buckley Jr., and Henry Kissinger. Tom Wolfe has said, "No columnist, no author, has had a greater influence upon the course of American political history over the past decade than the ribald contrarian R. Emmett Tyrrell Jr. Even the slain giants die laughing."

Not what I had hope to read.:
I said before that I try to be real honest with these reviews and I am standing by that mission. This is a book of basically the same old tireless game plan that has played out for years. I really don't believe the author is trying to make the world a better place or even really help in anyway to get the GOP back in office. I see many books that actually make you feel like you learned something or your life is better because you read that book. This was one of those books I really wouldn't suggest someone... more info
Can't Get Past The Prose:
"Don't use words too big for the subject. Don't say 'infinitely' when you mean 'very'; otherwise you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite." - C.S. Lewis In "After the Hangover", R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr. covers the past few decades of Conservative Politics, and lays out a roadmap for a Conversative rise to power. At least, that's what he attempts to do. Unfortunately the message is buried deep in a thorny brush of obscure words. I've finished every book I've ever... more info After the Hangover by R. Emmett Tyrrell Jr.:
There are few books I cannot force myself to complete. There are even fewer I want to hurl across the room. After the Hangover: The Conservative's Road to Recovery, by R. Emmett Tyrrell Jr., successfully made both lists. Tyrell's purpose in writing is two-fold: (1) to announce the conservative movement is not dead in politics and (2) to urge fellow conservatives to adopt his policy prescriptions and tactics, which will propel the party back to popularity. But despite the fact that I am politically... more info Well Written and Informative:
I usually read political books by well known writers, preferably people on TV who I know, but I jumped at the chance to read this book. Conservatives politics have had a rough past couple years but Tyrrell documents they're path to success once again. The books' greatest strength is Tyrrell's knowledge of other conservative leaders. As I said, Tyrrell isn't that well known. He could've written a book solely consisting his views and his ideas but it would've have been very fun to read. I'm a huge fan of... more info Similar Products:
